Ted Demopoulous over at Blogging for Business just posted an update to his book "One Year Later - What nobody ever tells you about blogging and podcasting"
I had the fortune of connecting with Ted and being interviewed last June. I also agree with his comment about motivation and ideas and believe there is a real need to understand your individual motivation to blog as well as to connect with others that have succeeded where you have not yet gone.
And if you haven't read it yet, the 101 stories from people who profit somehow from the blogosphere may just motivate you and give you some new ideas. It did with me.
Over the past few months I seem to keep finding more and more "abandoned blogs" after 6 months, a year or even less of starting it. The unfortunate part is that people are keeping their link on their main web page to their blog, but when you get there you find yourself disappointed since they haven't kept the momentum and their last post was 6 months or longer ago.
For me that has me wonder....hmm, what's up...is the business still active or are they just too busy to write IF they are THAT busy why haven't they hired a ghost writer to help?
So what's the secret to keeping the blogging momentum?
(here's a few ideas to get you going)
- Think before you leap - and be clear what your strategy is for blogging - this blog is mostly personal and is meant to be that way
- Create a blog that really interests you - one that you have passion for
- Focus and keep it simple - Through experience I've learned that it's hard to maintain multiple blogs and have one of my own abandoned blogs lingering on the internet (obviously not this one), as well as I've been a guest author on a few other blogs - some which are no longer around
- If you don't like to write - get help
- Create an editorial blog calendar - it will tell you which categories you want to blog on which days. I created a template for a business idea that never quite took off that I'm happy to share if you are interested - just ask and I'll email it to you.
- Look for ideas and what others have done that has worked.
- Finally, support Ted over at Blogging for Business and buy the book to jump start your own blogging strategy
