Who did you expect to throw a bigger tantrum? Mom of course because she's got 40 plus years of experience and raging PMS! The hilarity in it all is that I didn't even recognize that I was throwing a tantrum until the multi day event was over. Yes mine lasted two days and Eli's most current one was closer to 30 minutes.
Reflecting back on how often people tell me - Eli is just like you - has me feeling a bit nervous, really? Geez, do you think he will leave out the ego around wanting to be right and sticking to his guns (which we are already seeing signs of) and simply be the focused compassionate and passionate boy sans the difficult parts? Actually this is what makes Eli well, Eli, and as his parent and a steward of his life I hope that I can continue to learn and apply what I am learning in the moment. If not we're in for a long and bumpy ride.
Eli's Tantrum
So here we are with a guest (both a friend and a therapist) at our house having an incredible triple chocolate brownie from the Cakerie in Vancouver, BC (my brother was doing some consulting up there a couple weeks a go and stocked our freezer with incredible delights) discussing and learning what it will be like to bring a new member into our family for a few months - nope not pregnant, he's 17 and arriving tomorrow.
Let's see, I got to be the recipient of Eli's - he wants Gatorade and I offered water or rice milk and damn it I wasn't going to budge and either was he (yep we were a mirror of each other with different wants and needs). Yes that's right allow the child sugar via the brownie before bed but no Gatorade. A mom has got to set her standards some where.
